A top Hillsborough police officer boasted about his role in "concocting" a story that all the Liverpool fans were drunk, the inquest into the deaths of the 96 victims has been told. Sir Norman Bettison, who went on to become Chief Constable of Merseyside and West Yorkshire police forces, allegedly told an acquaintance of his role the month after the fatal crush at Hillsborough football stadium. The inquest jury has been hearing from John Barry who was studying for a part time MBA at Sheffield Business School in the same class as Sir Norman at the time of the disaster in 1989. Mr Barry said the course was held on Monday evenings and afterwards some of the group would go to the pub.
