St Andrews Student Jailed Over Wine Poisoning

An American student attending St Andrews University has been sentenced to three years in jail for poisoning a fellow classmate. Alexander Hilton, now aged 24, laced a bottle of red wine with methanol solvent on the evening of a university ball in March 2011. Hilton then encouraged fellow US national Robert Forbes to drink the wine, which left him temporarily blinded and needing kidney dialysis.
