Scotland has more than 400 words for snow - more than even the Inuit, according to researchers. Other words include "sneesi", which means to begin to rain or snow, "skelf" - a large snowflake - and "spitters", which means small drops or flakes of wind-driven rain or snow. The University of Glasgow study will see the words included in a new Scots thesaurus, including every word in the language from earliest records to the current day.
