Researchers at University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trusts and University College London analysed hospital data from almost 15 million patients for the study, published in the British Medical Journal. Sir Bruce Keogh, National Medical Director of NHS England, warned patients not to be put off using the hospital at weekends. Bernadette O'Neill, from Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Birmingham, said she was surprised by the findings.
