The activity of immune cells may provide a strong indicator of whether a person is at risk of developing schizophrenia, according to a new study. Researchers at the Medical Research Council’s Clinical Sciences Centre, based at Imperial College London, in collaboration with colleagues at King’s College London used brain scans to measure levels of activity of immune cells in the brain. Dr Oliver Howes from the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre said treatment for mental health, much of which is decades old, could benefit from the study's findings.
