Currently, students in England who are monitored by the national child measurement programme are weighed in their first and last year of primary school. Parents of children whose body mass index (BMI) - a calculation based on weight and height - falls outside the normal range will then receive a letter. But the Royal Society for Public Health, which promotes human health, is calling for "reform of, or an end to, the letters".
