Tougher Tests For Young Pupils Are On The Way

The Government is to forge ahead with plans for more testing in schools, as part of its controversial efforts to drive up standards in the education system. In a path that is likely to lead to heightened tensions with teaching unions, Education Secretary Nicky Morgan will use a speech later to announce what Whitehall described as the next phase of its education reform programme. In response to concerns that the focus on test results might deter promising heads, the Government also announced a new National Teacher Service to deploy outstanding teachers, with incentives including promotion and leadership opportunities.
