Televised debates should be a permanent feature of future election campaigns, researchers have said, after finding they had a significant impact on young voters. More than 7.3 million viewers watched the first debate ahead of the 2015 General Election between all seven main party leaders. And analysis carried out by the University of Leeds found all the debates influenced first-time voters, younger voters and those who claimed they were not interested in politics.
