Protein In Breast Milk Could Wipe Out Superbugs

Part of a protein in human breast milk could be used to destroy certain types of drug-resistant bacteria, according to UK scientists. Lactoferrin effectively kills bacteria, fungi and even viruses on contact, a study by the National Physical Laboratory and University College London found. It is hoped the discovery could help boost the fight against the growing issue of antibiotic resistance and even be used to tackle previously incurable diseases such as sickle-cell disease.
