Health-conscious men appear to have reduced the chances of a widely anticipated dementia "tsunami" - for now. Research led by the University of Cambridge suggests there are 40,000 fewer cases in the UK each year than had been predicted. The scientists who analysed the data believe that gender-related lifestyle differences - particularly a fall in smoking rates, blood pressure and cholesterol levels in men - may be the cause.
