Graduates are leaving university in this country with the highest debt levels in the English speaking world. A report by the Sutton Trust found students in England - under the £9,000 fees regime - owe an average of more than £44,000, when they finish their degrees. That compares to American students who graduate owing between £20,500, for those at public or private non-profit universities, and £29,000 for those at private for-profit universities.
