Children's healthcare in the UK is at "breaking point" because of staff shortages, leading doctors have warned. A survey by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) found more than half of paediatric units are not meeting the college's recommended staffing standards. The RCPCH said consultants have been forced to provide cover - including for junior doctors - to keep departments running, prompting fears that children's healthcare is "starting to move backwards".
