The poll indicated nearly half (42.8%) of school staff have had to deal with attacks by students in the last year, while many others have faced verbal abuse, including threats. Meanwhile, a support worker at a secondary school in Cheshire said they had been struck on the leg by a chair thrown by a student. The poll by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) surveyed 1,250 staff at UK state schools last autumn.
